Correlations between the average multiplicity of protons and the multiplicity of pions produced in inelastic interactions of pions, protons, and antinucleons with nuclei are considered in the framework of the intranuclear cascade model. The intranuclear cascade model, which is based on the representation of the nucleus as a set of scattering nucleon centers and which takes into account trawling of the nucleus, describes well the entire body of experimental data on these correlations, with the exception of the sole measurement of the {bar n}Ta interaction at high energies (E{sub {bar n}} = 5 GeV). Possible reasons for the discrepancy between the theory and experiment are discussed. 22 refs., 8 figs.
