An optical-pulse-shaping system using an electrooptic modulator driven by an aperture-coupled-stripline electrical-waveform generator has been developed. The pulse-shaping system is capable of producing arbitrarily shaped optical pulses with 100-ps structure over a 1- to 5-ns pulse envelope. The shaped optical pulses produced are amplified in a regenerative amplifier to the millijoule level and then amplified to the multikilojoule level in the OMEGA laser-fusion system.
