Search for Decays of B0 Mesons into Pairs of Leptons

The authors present a search for the decays B{sup 0} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -}, B{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}, and B{sup 0} {yields} e{sup {+-}} {mu}{sup {-+}} in data collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) with the BaBar detector at the SLAC B Factory. Using a data set of 54.4 fb{sup -1}, they find no evidence for a signal and set the following preliminary upper limits at the 90% confidence level: {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -}) < 3.3 x 10{sup -7}, {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +} {mu}{sup -}) < 2.0 x 10{sup -7}, and {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} e{sup {+-}} {mu}{sup {-+}}) < 2.1 x 10{sup -7}.
