Impending federal deadlines for purchasing alternatively fueled vehicles have fleet managers struggling to balance their own near-term needs with the industry`s longer-term opportunity to develop the electric vehicle (EV) market. EPAct recognizes that auto manufacturers haven`t exactly packed showrooms with reliable, affordable EVs - it also recognizes that advancements in EV technology are continuing space. But will there be EVs to comply with? While smaller EV manufacturers are ramping up their vehicle production, the biggest players in Detroit are hesitant. The sense then is that if the fleet manager is sincere about wanting electric cars and light trucks as part of the fleet solution, the government will provide some flexibility. So assuming that all parties are willing to go for the delay, what are the odds that technology will meet the utility`s needs. And, what will using EVs for compliance mean to the utility?
