TRU Waste Minimization During Hot Cell Decommissioning

Conference ·
OSTI ID:786553

The Battelle Columbus Laboratories Decommissioning Project (BCLDP) is currently utilizing a Sonatol SCS-300 decontamination system to clean transuranic (TRU) level contaminated items for disposal as low-level waste (LLW) during decontamination and decommissioning of Battelle's former reactor fuel research facility. By utilizing the Sonatol SCS-300 to effectively minimize 3000 ft{sup 3} of TRU waste volume, significant savings in burial costs can be realized for Battelle.
