Characterization of deformation structures in B2 CoAl
- Michigan State Univ., East Lansing, MI (United States). Dept. of Materials Science and Mechanics
B2 CoAl single crystals with a number of orientations have been deformed at 1,300 K and 1,000 K. The deformation substructures have been characterized using TEM diffraction contrast techniques supported by image simulations. While {l_angle}100{r_angle} slip is found to be the predominant slip mode at these temperatures, {l_angle}111{r_angle} and {l_angle}110{r_angle} dislocations have also been observed. In particular, in hard orientations {l_angle}110{r_angle} dislocations appear to play an active role in initiating the deformation. Additionally, {l_angle}110{r_angle} dislocations are often observed as junctions of {l_angle}100{r_angle} type dislocations. Under the conditions tested, changes in alloy stoichiometry do not result in any modifications to the dislocation slip behavior.
