In this paper an analytical solution is presented for natural convection from a point source of heat which is embedded in a unbounded saturated porous medium. The non-Darcy effects which are expected to significant for high permeabilities and Rayleigh numbers are included. The boundary layer phenomena is demonstrated to be characterized by scales that differ markedly from the scales known in the Darcy limit. It is shown that the natural convection phenomenon in the non-Darcy limit is governed by a modified Rayleigh number {tilde R}. The results indicate that the inertial effects tends to reduce the buoyancy-induced flow.
