{ital CP} violation in {tau}{r_arrow}3{pi}{nu}{sub {tau}}

We consider {ital CP}-violating effects in the decays {tau}{r_arrow}(3{pi}){nu}{sub {tau}} where both the {ital J}{sup {ital P}}=1{sup +} resonance {ital a}{sub 1} and {ital J}{sup {ital P}}=0{sup {minus}} resonance {pi}{prime} can contribute. The interference between the {ital a}{sub 1} and {pi}{prime} resonances can lead to enhanced {ital CP}-violating asymmetries whose magnitudes depend crucially on the {pi}{prime} decay constant {ital f}{sub {pi}{prime}}. We make an estimate of {ital f}{sub {pi}{prime}} with a simplified chiral Lagrangian coupled to a massive pseudoscalar field, and we compare the estimates from the nonrelativistic quark model and from the QCD sum rule with the estimate from the ``mock`` meson model. We then estimate quantitatively the size of {ital CP}-violating effects in a multi-Higgs-doublet model and scalar-leptoquark models, by assuming that the rest frame of the {tau} can be reconstructed for three-prong decays. We find that, while {ital CP}-violating effects in the scalar-leptoquark models may require more than 10{sup 10} {tau} leptons, {ital CP}-violating effects from the multi-Higgs-doublet model can be seen at the 2{sigma} level with about 10{sup 7} {tau} leptons for the maximal value of the {ital CP}-violation parameter allowed by present experiments and for the chiral Lagrangian estimate of {ital f}{sub {pi}{prime}}=(1--5){times}10{sup {minus}3} GeV.
