Methods of point-contact and tunneling spectroscopy have been used to determine the gap parameter {Delta} for single crystals of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital x}} and YbBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital x}} with critical temperature 60 K {le}{ital T}{sub {ital c}}{le}90 K. Sharp dips of the dynamic conductance {ital dI}/{ital dV} of point contacts at voltages {ital V}{sub {ital n}}=2{Delta}/(en) ({ital n}{le}8--9), as well as a clear gap structure in the {ital I}({ital V}) characteristics of tunnel junctions give convincing evidence for the existence of a true superconducting gap in YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital x}} and YbBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital x}} single crystals at least at {ital T}{much_lt}{ital T}{sub {ital c}}, as in conventional superconductors.
