Ctd measurements collected on a climate and global change cruise (WOCE section p16n) along 152 deg w during February-April, 1991. Data report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:76324
In support of NOAA`s Climate Program, PMEL scientists have been measuring the growing burden of greenhouse gases in the thermocline waters of the Pacific Ocean and the overlying atmosphere since 1980. Full water column CTD profiles and a suite of anthropogenic and natural tracers including chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), helium-tritium, radiocarbon, total CO2, dissolved oxygen, dissolved nutrients, and salinity were collected. These measurements will be used to study the distribution, sources, and formation rates of water masses and their flow patterns and time scales. The CFC and tritium measurements will be of use in studying the rates of upper and intermediate water mass formation and transport processes. CO2 measurements will be used to study the flux of CO2 from atmosphere to ocean and the importance of this region as a sink for CO2.
