A new semianalytical algorithm for the time integration of the time-dependent multigroup neutron diffusion equations has been developed. The technique has been implemented in a one-dimensional nodal code and tested on two sample transient problems. The new method yields accurate results over time intervals coarser than those possible with solely numerical schemes and predicts reactor powers significantly more accurately than its finite difference counterparts on a wide range of time steps. Extensions to two- and three-dimensional spatial treatments and further refinements of the time-integration procedure are being pursued.
