The authors present some preliminary information on a high-pressure synthesis of new hydrides using complex metal-graphite matrices of the following composition: C{sub 4}MH{sub x}(I) and C{sub 8}MH{sub x}(II), where M is potassium, rubidium, or cesium. Preparation of these matrics from graphite and an alkali metal hydride at a near-atmospheric hydrogen pressure was first described as early as 1971. The x value or the H/M ratio for compounds I and II are of the same magnitude and are close to 0.6-0.8 independently of the alkali metal nature.
