Measurements of Q{sub 2} evolution of the GDH sum rule and the spin structure of the {sup 3}He and the neutron
The authors have recently completed experiment E94-010 at Jefferson Lab. The experiment used a polarized {sup 3}He target and polarized electron beam to measure asymmetries and cross sections for {sup 3}He (e,e{prime}) from the threshold to deep inelastic region, covering the quasielastic and the resonance region. The Q{sup 2} range covered is from 0.03 to 1 GeV{sup 2}. From these data, the {sup 3}He and the neutron spin structure and the Q{sup 2} evolution of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule will be studied. This is the first measurement of the Q{sup 2} evolution of the GDH sum rule. Preliminary results are presented. Plans for future study on this subject at Jefferson Lab is discussed.
