Measurements of the deuteron elastic structure function A(Q{sup 2}) at the Jefferson Laboratory
Results from experiment E91-026 in Hall A at the Jefferson Laboratory are reported. The aim of this experiment was to extract the deuteron structure function A(Q{sup 2}) from the coincidence elastic electron-deuteron cross-section measurements. A squared four-momentum transfer (Q{sup 2}) range of 0.7 to 6.0 (Gev/c){sup 2} was covered. Data from this experiment improve the quality of existing data at the low end as well as significantly extend the Q{sup 2} range. The results are compared to conventional meson-nucleon calculations based on both the non-relativistic and relativistic impulse approximation. They are also compared to predictions of dimensional scaling and perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
