The influence of the preparation procedure, the nature of an active component and a support on physicochemical and catalytic properties of the M-Ce-Zr-O and M-Ce-Zr-O/support systems, where M is Cr, Fe Co while a support is {gamma}- or {alpha}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}, is studied. The bulk samples calcined at 850{degrees}C are shown to consist of a mixture of both cubic CeO{sub 2} and ZrO{sub 2} phases and M{sub n}O{sub m} (Cr{sub 2}O{sub 3}, {alpha}-F{sub 2}O{sub 3}, and Co{sub 3}O{sub 4}). A specific catalytic activity of M-Ce-Zr-O samples in the reaction of the butane complete oxidation is equal to 1.2 x 10{sup {minus}7} mol C{sub 4}H{sub 10} m{sup {minus}2} s{sup {minus}1}. The phase composition of the M-Ce-Zr-O/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} samples depends on the M nature. Thus, the phase composition of chromium- and iron-containing samples is similar to that of bulk samples (a support phase is additionally present). In the cobalt-containing samples, CoAl{sub 2}O{sub 4} is formed. The Cr-Ce-Zr-O/{gamma}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} samples exhibit the maximum activity in the reaction under study. Their activity and thermal stability depend on the order of the introduction of an active component onto a support.
