Tau physics at LEP: Status and potential

The author discusses the performance of LEP in 1994 as far as tau production is concerned. He projects the lifetime performance of LEP for tau physics results. He then discusses what has been learned from studies of tau decays. Michel parameters, lifetimes and branching ratios to leptonic decays, and to final states with hadrons and kaons along with neutrinos and other particles. Strong coupling constants are also discussed.
