Turbine-generator (T-G) pedestal design is today inviting greater and greater attention from the civil engineering community. Design criteria presently published by United States manufacturers reflect a desire to keep the power-generating system intact and operating. They fall short, however, because information is missing which the pedestal designer could use gainfully to minimize the distress felt by the machine. The purpose of this paper is to show how analysis can reflect the interaction of the machine and its supporting structure, and to point out what kind of information is needed for proper analysis.
