This report is part of a series of studies dealing with general public behavior and attitudes towards energy conservation. Specifically, this study concentrates on consumer attitudes and behavior resulting from issues surrounding the energy shortage. The report is divided into four sections, as follows: highlights from Opinion Research Corporation's energy impact program; analysis of the role of education on attitudes and behavior; data on type of fuel used for home heating and its effects upon consumer behavior and attitudes; and a synthesis of available data dealing with the public's willingness to pay for pollution controls and environmental cleanup. The report also includes data on the rising cost of electricity; rationing; the role of education in attitudes toward strip mining; energy self-sufficiency; power plants and oil refineries as a cause of air pollution; and oil heat users.
