National gas survey. Volume I, Chapter 10. Future gas supplied from alternate sources. Preliminary draft

Book ·
OSTI ID:7364763
Projections of future available substitute gas from domestic sources and gas from foreign sources are discussed in this report. Alternate sources of domestic gas are coal, oil shale, and organic refuse. Even though the projections for future supplies included in the report do not include oil shale and organic refuse as contributing sources by 1990, some attention is given to these two sources. The use of hydrogen as a new energy source and the basis of the hydrogen economy is discussed in some detail. Natural gas imports by both pipeline and shipments of liquefied gas are considered in the projections. Synthetic natural gas from liquid hydrocarbons and gas from methanol are discussed in connection with foreign sources, since feedstocks for these processes are generally foreign supplied. The gas availability projections and other pertinent data are presented in 31 tables and 3 figures. (BLM)
