Angular correlation measurements in /sup 43/Ca

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Particle-..gamma.. angular correlations have been measured for transitions from the 373, 593, 990, 2877, 3027, and 3270 keV states in /sup 43/Ca. In addition, information about the decay schemes of states at 2695 and 2943 keV was obtained. These levels were populated with known initial alignment by detection of ..cap alpha.. particles from the /sup 44/Ca(/sup 3/He,..cap alpha..)/sup 43/Ca reaction at 0degree relative to the beam. The measured value of the M2/E1 mixing ratio of the 990..-->..373 keV transition is delta=0.012 +- 0.017. This small value of delta implies an upper limit on the M2 strength for this transition which is consistent with the systematics of other M2 rates in this mass region. The measured angular correlations, in conjunction with previous work, suggest spin-parity values of 3/2/sup +/ for the 2877 keV state, 3/2/sup +/ for the 3027 keV state, and 5/2/sup +/ or 5/2/sup -/ for the 3270 keV state.
