Process for treating waste gas in reprocessing of used nuclear fuel

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7363840
A process is described for the separation of /sup 85/Kr from waste gas generated in the reprocessing of used nuclear fuel. Explosive gaseous substances, such as H/sub 2/ and NO/sub x/, materials capable of forming explosive gaseous substances, such as O/sub 2/, and condensable substances, such as CO/sub 2/, H/sub 2/O, and NH/sub 3/, are removed first from the waste gases. Then the waste gases are subjected to cryogenic distillation for removal and separation of /sup 85/Kr. The O/sub 2/ and NO/sub x/ can be completely removed from the waste gases by catalytic hydrogen reduction. 13 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures. (BLM)
