A horizontal multidirectional windmill is described which comprises a fixed housing and a rotor, the housing being constituted by upper and lower horizontally disposed members and a plurality of vertically disposed vanes extending between the members. The rotor is constituted by upper and lower horizontally disposed members lying in the planes of the housing members. A vertical axle is secured to the rotor members. Buckets are mounted between the rotor members and extend inwardly from the periphery thereof. Each bucket has a flexible vertically disposed surface portion and supports for the inner and outer edges of the portions. The distance between the supports is varied automatically as a function of rotational speed of the rotor.
