Preoperative demonstration of a bleeding Meckel's diverticulum represents a challenging diagnostic problem. Unfortunately, these lesions often are not detected by conventional roentgen studies. The bleeding is nearly always associated with ectopic functional gastric mucosa within the diverticulum (1), which causes ulceration of the diverticulum or adjacent ileum. The present report describes a patient with massive intestinal bleeding from a Meckel's diverticulum diagnosed preoperatively by both abdominal arteriography and radioisotope imaging with technetium pertechnetate.
