Book ·
OSTI ID:7361849
At the end of 1973, there were 360 gas storage fields in operation in 26 states of the United States, compared with 348 at the end of 1972. Of these, 198 were reported by pipeline companies subject to the Commission's jurisdiction. Liquefied natural gas storage projects are not included with the underground storage fields in this report. The growth in active underground gas storage fields in the U.S. from 1916 to the end of 1973 is charted. Data compiled in the three sections that follow are capacity, utilization, and certification of underground natural gas storage fields by jurisdictional pipeline companies in 1973; estimated cost of storing gas underground in 1973, and winter 1973--1974 storage. Appendix 1 contains data tabulated on underground gas storage, deliverability, and peak day use for jurisdictional companies as of December 31, 1972. Appendix 2 contains tabulated data on comparison between the capacity used and the cost of storing gas underground. (MCW)
