Synergistic effect in the extraction of tetravalent plutonium with mixutures of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone and tributyl phosphate

The extraction of Pu(IV) from solutions of HNO/sub 3/ with mixtures of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone and tributyl phosphate in benzene and cyclohexane was investigated. An appreciable synergistic effect was detected. It was shown that its maximum numerical value and the region of its appearance vary with the acidity of the aqueous phase and the nature of the solvent.
