The possibility of formation of K/sub 5/Ln(WO/sub 4/)/sub 4/ was investigated for Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, and Y; solid-phase reaction and crystallization from K/sub 2/W/sub 2/O/sub 7/ melt were used for the synthesis. X-ray phase analysis showed that only the compound K/sub 5/La(WO/sub 4/)/sub 4/ was formed; the others formed a mixture of two phases, KLn(WO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ and K/sub 2/WO/sub 4/. K/sub 5/La(WO/sub 4/)/sub 4/ melts at 820 +- 20/sup 0/C; it is isostructural with palmierite, and its hexagonal lattice constants are a = 6.030 +- 0.008 A and c = 20.89 +- 0.04 A. (DLC)
