The luminosity of the very red supergiant near the cluster TR 27

We identify the red supergiant to which Albers called attention as CoD -33degree12241. Because of its high color index (B - V=2.83) we used coude spectrograms in the red region to estimate the luminosity from line widths and relative intensities. Our classification of MO Ia implies M/subv/approx. =-7.2 +- 0.5, which suggests that the star lies somewhat behind the group of OB stars assigned by The and Stokes to this rather doubtful cluster. The radial velocity of CoD -33degree12241 is -11.4 +- 0.7 km s/sup -1/. (AIP)
