Catalyst for purifying exhaust gases

A multi-component catalyst composition is prepared by combining noble metal catalyst elements effective for oxidizing carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons with catalyst elements effective for the same purpose but containing no noble metal. The multi-component catalyst composition is effective in purifying exhaust gases containing nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons by converting these harmful components into harmless components.
