A process is described for recovering oil from heterogeneous subterranean reservoirs having strata of widely varying permeabilities in which a soluble oil miscible with the connate reservoir oil and with water is injected into the reservoir through an injection well. One or more aqueous solutions of reagents that react in the reservoir to form a plugging material are injected into the reservoir through the injection well prior to completing the injection of the soluble oil, and thereafter an aqueous flooding medium is injected to drive the soluble oil towards a space production well from which fluids are recovered.
