Cryogenic and superconducting magnet research at the NASA Lewis Research Center

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7355271
A research and development program to produce strong magnetic fields in large test volumes with minimum weight and power consumption is summarized. A high-field liquid-neon cooled aluminum magnet and various superconducting magnets and their uses are discussed. Superconducting coils for the magnets are wound from ultrapure aluminum, niobium-zirconium, niobium-titanium, and niobium-tin conductors, and have produced fields from 14.0 to 20.0 tesla.
