A. G. A. report on gas reserves: natural gas proved reserves decline

Journal Article · · Am. Gas Assoc. Mon.; (United States)

Proved reserves of natural gas in the U.S. dropped 4 percent during 1975, marking the seventh decline in the last eight years. Proved reserves as of December 31, 1975 are estimated at 228.2 Tcf, compared with 237.1 Tcf at the end of 1974. Natural gas production exceeded 20 Tcf for six years (1969-1974), reaching a high of 22.6 Tcf in 1973, or 13 percent above the 1975 level of 19.7 Tcf. Natural gas liquids reserves declined by less than 2 percent from 6,350 million barrels to 6,268 million. Production of natural gas liquids dropped in 1975 to 701 million barrels from 724 million in 1974. A.G.A. President F. Donald Hart says that, to reverse the decline, long-term policies must be adopted that remove present Federal controls on new gas. Estimated total proved reserves of natural gas and natural gas liquids in the United States and additional data related to the reserve estimates are tabulated by state. The Canadian Petroleum Association has reported that proved reserves of marketable natural gas in Canada at the end of 1975 were up 267 Bcf compared to the prior year and stood at 57 Tcf. (MCW)
