Submillimeter laser interferometer for plasma diagnostics

A submillimeter HCN laser (lambda=337 ..mu..) is used to make a three mirror interferometer for measuring electron densities in the range 10/sup 13/-10/sup 16/ cm/sup -3/. The results of a study of the time behavior of the electron density in an electrodeless inductive discharge are presented. It is shown that this interferometer can also be used to determine the electron-ion collision frequency and the plasma temperature in the range 10/sup 3/-10/sup 5/ degreeK. (AIP)
