Corrosion evaluation of stainless steels in ICPP high level radioactive waste service

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7348221

At the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant, several 300 series stainless steels were corrosion tested in raffinate storage tanks made of the same materials. After exposure to the raffinate solutions for periods up to nineteen years, maximum penetration rates of 0.1 mil per year were observed on Types 304L and 348 stainless steels and 0.2 mil per year on Type 316L stainless steel in aluminum-zirconium process first cycle raffinate, and only 0.006 mil per year on Types 304L and 348 stainless steels in second and third cycle raffinate.
