Nonequilibrium states resulting from tunneling in superconductors

A theoretical analysis is made of nonequilibrium states resulting from the tunnel injection of quasiparticles into a superconductor. The distribution function of nonequilibrium excitations is calculated. The stability of such states against dissociation of Cooper pairs and fluctuations of the distribution function is discussed. It is shown that a nonequilibrium superconducting state may be paramagnetic in a sufficiently thin film and it may be stable against current fluctuations. Electromagnetic properties of such states are discussed. (AIP)
