Starting from measured provisional and post-neutron mass distributions, the neutron emission curve, ..nu.. (m*), is calculated for the photofission of /sup 235/U and /sup 238/U with 25-MeV bremsstrahlung, by applying a method similar to the method described by Terrell. As a test of the procedure, the ..nu.. (m*) curve for the spontaneous fission of /sup 252/Cf and the thermal neutron induced fission of /sup 235/U are also calculated and compared with the directly measured curves. The ..nu.. (m*) curves show the typical saw-tooth structure, indicating that fragment shell effects play an important role in the photofission of /sup 235/U and /sup 238/U with bremsstrahlung in the mentioned energy region.
