X-70. Mo--Nb: a new family of HSLA steels designed for Arctic and offshore pipelines

Book ·
OSTI ID:7345559
High-quality steels are needed for pipelines in remote and hostile environments. A family of new formula HSLA steels is produced with the aid of up-to-date mill processing technology, with a resulting combination of greater yield strength and better impact properties owing to grain refinement. Effects of Mo content, cold forming, tempering, and pipe geometry on mechanical properties are shown. Fracture toughness was studied for several steels. Case histories of gas transmission pipes made from 5LS-X65, 5LS-X70, 5LX-X70, and 5LX-X65 are given. Welding of Mo--Nb line pipe in mill and field is discussed, with an evaluation of girth welds. 9 tables, 17 figs. (DLC)
