Kinetics of the N/sub 2/O gasdynamic laser

In an analysis of the operation of a N/sub 2/O gasdynamic laser in which the working medium flows through a supersonic nozzle, the population inversion is calculated as a function of the nozzle shape and other parameters. The maximum inversion is slightly higher than that for a CO/sub 2/ laser and is reached at a much lower gas temperature. The calculated results agree satisfactorily with the available experimental data. (AIP)
