The possibility of using scrapers and related earth-handling equipment is examined. Advantages and disadvantages are set out and the performance and cost of draglines, shovels and scrapers are compared. The use of scrapers is not recommended for all situations, but under some conditions, they may be more suitable than other types of machinery.
