Water and polymer field-injection tests are being conducted to furnish data for a planned pilot project in the Temblor Zone II reservoir in the East Coalinga field, Calif. The pilot project will evaluate the relative merits of polymer flooding and waterflooding. This paper describes the tests for choosing the most suitable polymer for this project. It is concluded that the field methods developed for determining in-situ mobility and wellbore impairment from polymer injectivity data can be used to help determine the effectiveness of a polymer for a specific project.
