Determination of the nuclear magnetic moment of /sup 175/Hf by nuclear orientation

The angular distribution of the 343-keV transition of /sup 175/Lu has been measured following the decay of /sup 175/Hf polarized at temperatures down to 0.004 K in ferromagnetic Hf/sub 0/./sub 1/Zr/sub 0/./sub 9/Fe/sub 2/. The /sup 175/Hf nuclear magnetic moment has been deduced to be absolute value ..mu.. absolute value = (0.70 +- 0.10) ..mu../subN/. The /sup 180/Hf/subm/ hyperfine splitting has been remeasured to be ..delta.. = 8.2 +- 0.2 mK. (AIP)
