How to cut your energy bills
The aim of the book is to save the reader much money on energy costs, to allow him to live comfortably, and to hopefully ease some of the pressure on the worlds' fossil fuel supply. The book begins by showing how to plug energy leaks with a chapter on insulation; the second chapter is devoted to preventing energy losses at windows and doors. The heating and air conditioning chapter tells how all popular systems work and how to maintain them. Other in-depth topics include: how to ventilate; lighting and appliances and how to maximize their use; fireplaces, alternative heat sources, how to take advantage of the Sun's heat, and how to get a tax refund for installing insulation. Some additional key chapters concern energy conservation in home additions and conversion of interior space; and energy conservation for homes already built, with planning tips on building your own. Another chapter gives all current details on future energy sources. The book details some of the major energy conservation homes now in existence. A chapter is presented on fitting the home for seasonal change and proper home energy management. Proper placement of windows, trees, garages can save great amounts of energy. (MCW)
