Analysis of naturally fractured reservoirs from conventional well logs

This paper presents techniques for detecting and evaluating fractured reservoirs from porosity (sonic, neutron, or density) and resistivity logs. It is shown that the porosity exponent of a naturally fractured reservoir should be small compared with the porosity exponent of the matrix. A series of charts was generated for estimating the porosity exponent as a function of total porosity, matrix porosity, and the porosity exponent of the matrix. Three examples are presented.
