Recent technological advances in electric-powered vehicles are reviewed. Although the electric battery remains the limiting factor, vehicle range can be improved by reducing the peak current drains during acceleration, by semiconductor interrupted control methods, and by regenerative braking. Lead-acid batteries and nickel-cadmium batteries are compared, and hybrid systems with flywheels are considered. Performance test results for an experimental impact passenger car are given. (PMA)
