Symmetry properties of elementary particles and their interactions are described. Particular attention is paid to isospin and unitary symmetry. Chiral symmetry, current algebra, CP violationand the unified gauge theory of weak and electromagnetic interactions are also discussed. Quantum electrodynamics and references to quantum field theory are eliminated but a minimal familiarity with quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, and special relativity would be helpful to the reader.
