Singularities problem in the finite element method

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7338555
The problem of the influence of a nonsmooth boundary or interfaces on the convergence of the finite element method is important from the theoretical and practical points of view. In the case of linear problems, important results have been obtained recently. However, there are only a very few results which are related to the nonlinear problems. This paper attempts a survey of the current known results related to the problem of singular behavior of elliptic equations, especially with respect to numerical solutions. An extensive list of references is given. 7 figures, 4 tables.
