A history of Imperial Valley geothermal well drilling is provided. Current developments suggest the possibilities of two technological breakthroughs: utilization of 300/sup 0/ to 400/sup 0/F brines in the world's first binary fluid closed cycle geothermal power plant and the world's first operational geothermal desalting plant.
