Experimental study of giant dipole and quadrupole resonances in /sup 16/O

The 20--30-MeV excitation energy region of /sup 16/O was investigated by inelastic scattering of 45 MeV protons and 60 MeV ..cap alpha.. particles. Both E1 and E2 strengths are present, exhausting, respectively, about 50% and between 16 and 21% of the corresponding energy-weighted sum rule. Microscopic calculations also reproduce angular distributions fairly well. (AIP)
