Decays of /sup 126/Ba and /sup 126/Cs

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The neutron deficient /sup 126/Ba has been produced by the reactions /sup 115/In(/sup 16/O, 5n)/sup 126/La(..beta../sup +/)/sup 126/Ba, /sup 121/Sb(/sup 11/B, 6n)/sup 126/Ba, and /sup 133//+/sup s(p, 8n)/sup 126/Ba. Its decay properties have been studied in equilibrium with the daughter activity of /sup 126/Cs. About 100 ..gamma.. rays have been observed to be associated with the decay of the /sup 126/Ba--/sup 126/Cs mass chain. The assignment of ..gamma.. rays to /sup 126/Ba and /sup 126/Cs activities has been done by measuring ..gamma..-ray spectra gated by K x rays of Cs and Xe, respectively. The ..gamma..--..gamma.. and ..beta..--..gamma.. coincidence studies have been performed by using large volume Ge(Li) and plastic detectors and a two parameter analyzer system. Conversion coefficients of intense ..gamma.. transitions have been measured by using a conversion electron spectrometer consisting of a Ge(Li) detector and a cooled Si(Li) detector. Decay schemes of /sup 126/Cs and /sup 126/Ba are proposed. The levels in /sup 126/Xe are compared with predictions of the collective model. (AIP)
