Growth atmosphere effects on bubble properties for (Ca,Lu,Sm,Y)/sub 3/(Fe,Ge)/sub 5/O/sub 12/, (Ca,Eu,Lu,Y)/sub 3/(Fe,Ge)/sub 5/O/sub 12/ and (Ca,Y)/sub 3/(Fe,Ge)/sub 5/O/sub 12/ garnet LPE films grown on (111) GGG substrates have been investigated. Equilibrium between the melt and gas phase was achieved, by keeping the PbO-B/sub 2/O/sub 3/ fluxed melt in an O/sub 2/-N/sub 2/ mixed gas atmosphere. Film lattice parameter and 4..pi..M/sub s/ linearly increase with oxygen partial pressure, P(O/sub 2/), while Curie temperature and growth-induced uniaxial anisotropy decrease with increasing P(O/sub 2/) for these garnets grown at approximately 900/sup 0/C. However, at higher growth temperature (approximately 1000/sup 0/C), the P(O/sub 2/) dependence turns out to be less significant. Pt/sup 4 +/ substitution in the octahedral sites accompanied with Pb/sup 2 +/ in the dodecahedral sites accounts for these drastic changes in film properties.
