Fifteen RR Lyrae variables are found in the field of the globular cluster NGC 1841 near the Magellanic Clouds. It is shown from star counts that 12 of these variables (with periods characteristic of Oosterhoff type II and a mean (B)/sub I/ magnitude of 19.87) are almost certainly cluster members. The other three have periods corresponding to Oosterhoff type I, lie well beyond the limiting radius (8') of the cluster, and have mean (B)/sub I/ magnitudes of 19.91, 19.95 and 19.94. It is suggested that these field RR Lyrae variables (and perhaps also NGC 1841) may belong to a tenuous halo of the Clouds that is being dissociated by tidal interaction with our Galaxy.
